Keith Grieve: Lakers Just Don't Have It Where They Need It

Shame on me for not going on the record, but I knew the Lakers were going to lose that game to the Heat last night.

This Lakers team leaves you less than satisfied when you watch them. Kobe's Kobe, and he always will be. It's once again his supporting cast of characters that come into question.

PG and SF is where the Lakers are their weakest. Derek Fisher is a shadow of whisper of his former self, struggling to keep up with quicker (read: younger) point guards. Matt Barnes has yet to justify his starting position over Metta World Peace.

Not that MWP is that much better, but at least you know he's capable of being a decent starting caliber player. You know you're not going to see it very often these days, but you know it's in there...somewhere...and you know it's just GOT to be dying to be let out. Or maybe it isn't and this is the absolute best the bat-shit crazy MWP can muster.

Regardless, any time the Lakers face an opponent with a top level PG or SF they're going to struggle. Unfortunately for the Lakers that puts them at the "hard to believe" stage to do anything important.

Dwight Howard will not fix things. Post play isn't the problem. It's the fact that they are incredibly vulnerable on the wing and at the point and that opens up a lot of options for the upper-echelon teams.

Kobe's not getting younger and maybe the only bright spot to this year is that it's only 66 games long.

LA may just belong to the Clippers. For now.
