Interesting Comments Made By Joe Montana The Other Day

So from time to time, the day job provides some perks. One such perk happened the other day as I got the chance to attend a fundraising luncheon where the guest speaker was no other than the great Joe Montana.

So Joe speaks and gives this fairly good speech about excellence not being an accident and all the motivational talk you would expect. Afterward, there was a brief question-and-answer session.

Of note, was one young man who stood up to ask him if he ever had spoken with the University of Notre Dame about either a position as Athletic Director or as a coach.

Montana's response caught me off guard, as he made reference to, without going into specifics, situations no kid should go through and that it made it hard to "be in their corner". The phrase that made wonder just what the hell happened was Montana describing a phone conversation with Notre Dame's athletic director. Apparently, whatever Montana brought to light, the AD had no idea and reportedly paused for a good 30 seconds before responding.

I'm getting this "Davinci Code" feeling about the "Golden Dome".

The other comment was in response to a question about whether Montana regretted leaving the 49ers. Montana stated that all he wanted to do was compete for the starting job after recovering from his injury, and the 49ers wouldn't let him do it.

Montana said: "So I had to choose between sitting behind someone who I didn't feel was better than me or (moving on)..."

Someone get Montana and Steve Young in the octagon, pronto.
