NFL Week 5

12-3 last week people. I somehow neglected to pick the Monday Night game, but I would have picked Tampa Bay. Trust me. Anywho, my season record now sits at 22-9. If I was a college hoops program, I'd be Top 25 easily.

This week's games will go like so:

Eagles at Bills: Bills can run the ball. Eagles can't stop the run. Trent Cole is out too. The dream team stumbles again and the Bills win. I know, I know- picking the Bills must mean I've lost my head. But folks, this is the sorry state of the Eagles: I trust the Bills defense more than I do the Eagles.

Chiefs at Colts- Last week, Curtis Painter showed me something. However the Colts defense is giving up 8+ yards per attempt. I'll take the Chiefs.

Cardinals at Vikings- You know how everyone has that one friend who just annoys the shit out of everyone but no one has the heart to tell him exactly how they feel so they just keep letting him show up to everything? That guy is Leslie Frazier and he's in the middle of failing. Hard. Cardinals win.

Seahawks at Giants- West coast going to East coast usually never works. I said that last week when I picked the Eagles to beat the 49ers. I was wrong last week. I'm not wrong this week. The Seahawks had the Atlanta Falcons on the ropes last week, but I'm not that high on the Falcons right now, just like the rest of the world. The Giants win.

Titans at Steelers- Remember when everyone was basking in the glow of the Pittsburgh Steelers and nestling up to the almighty football teet, singing praises of a franchise that could do no wrong and was the model of how to reload and keep winning? Seems like a distant memory, doesn't it? Yeah, it was only 5 weeks ago. The Steelers are a step behind and Titans are the surprise of the year. And I...am....picking....the....Titans...to...win....in....Pittsburgh. It was hard even for me to do that, and I'm no Steeler teet nestler.

Saints at Panthers- Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers put on a pretty good show last week at Chicago. However, the Saints won't give them any chance to breathe and are a much better overall team. Saints win.

Bengals at Jaguars- I tell ya, that Andy Dalton kid is a little rough around the edges but he's a competitor. Cincinnati plays the run well on defense and I don't think Blaine Gabbert's ready to put a game on his shoulders. Bengals take this one.

Raiders at Texans- An emotional game, for sure, with the passing of longtime Raiders owner Al Davis. Rumor has it Mike Shanahan even shed a tear. He had to chop a bowl of onions to do it, but he shed a tear. Did you know the Texans are holding opposing quarterbacks to 77.5 rating? Did you also know the Texans are giving up 4.9 yards per carry? The Texans only saving grace is that they can run the ball no matter who is in the backfield. Hell, Kijana Carter could have been a Hall of Famer on this team. Texans at home will win.

Buccanners at 49ers- This is probably one of the more intriguing matchups this week. We still don't know what to make of the Bucs, and we sure as hell don't know what to make of Alex Smith. Tampa's defense is pedestrian and the Niners are at home, and will win this.

Chargers at Broncos- Either John Fox is really bad coach or Josh McDaniels effed this franchise into oblivion. I really don't think Fox is that bad of a coach. Denver's pass defense is atrocious and Phillip Rivers should be able to take advantage so I'll pick the Chargers.

Jets at Patriots- The Rex-Ryan-Runs-His-Mouth Circus and Sideshow travels to football Dagobah. Yes, I'm calling Bill Belichick the football equivalent of Yoda. The Jets defend the pass as good as anyone, but they struggle against the run. The Pats are averaging 4.8 yards per carry. The question is will they commit to it? So far this year they are 49% run. Pats win.

Packers at Falcons- A rematch of last year's NFC Divisional Playoff. The Falcons heads are still swirling. The problem with this game is that both teams have had suspect pass defense so far. The Packers, however, can stop the run. I also feel that after last year's playoff game, the Packers have the Falcons number. Oh, and that Aaron Rodgers guy isn't bad either. (Side note- Give credit to the Packers for going from one Hall of Fame quarterback to a guy who, at the pace he's currently on, could make fans forget about the guy he took over for. Yes, he's that good. Pisses off a Bears fan like me and our 204 quarterbacks since Jim McMahon) Packers win.

Bears at Lions- No chance I could forget the Monday night game this week. The Lions are atop the 87sportsfans Power Rankings and rightfully so. They face the defending NFC North champs who are looking avoid falling three games back of either Detroit or Green Bay, or maybe both. The Bears defense took a major step back last week by giving up 29 points to the Carolina Panthers. In the Bears scheme, they may give up yards, but points are supposed to come in field goals, not touchdowns. Bears safety Chris Harris is listed as probable. He is absolutely essential, since suspect safety play in the two weeks he's been gone have hurt. If Cam Newton and Steve Smith can have a big day, what's Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson going to do? The Bears need to run the ball to shorten the game if they hope to have a prayer, but in the end the Lions at home will be too much.
