NFL Week 4
Welp, I went 10-6 with my week 3 picks, which puts me at 21-11 for the year. Here's my trip around Week 4.
Bills at Bengals- I have to give the Bills credit for winning while showing tremendous resolve against the New England Patriots. They're 3-0, shocking the world, which make them prime candidates for a let-down game here. The Bengals are underrated on defense in my opinion, it doesn't mean they're good, but I think everyone will be shocked to see a low scoring game here and I'm picking the Bengals to come out on top.
Titans at Browns- Matt Hasselbeck has provided what this now young and coming Titans team has needed, especially with RB Chris Johnson not exactly keeping up his end of the bargain. The Browns, likewise, seem to be headed in the right direction. This in the end will also end up being a defensive struggle, which usually (my previous pick being the exception) I always go with the veteran quarterback, even on the road. Titans win this one.
Lions at Cowboys- The new kids on the block face the kids that never showed up when everyone thought they would. This is a key test for Lions QB Matthew Stafford and will tell us more about the Lions than it will about the Cowboys. The Lions have not been able to get the running game going and I don't think this is the week they do it. Their run defense has been suspect, giving up 5 yards per attempt and Felix Jones can exploit that. I'm going with the Cowboys to deal out some reality.
Vikings at Chiefs- The Vikings are still in the wake of Hurricane Favre and the Chiefs look to be taking a giant step backward. The Vikings can't stop anyone through the air to date, and while the Chiefs haven't been that much better, they have an advantage in Matt Cassel's familiarity with his teammates vs. Donovan McNabb's newer surroundings. The Vikings are averaging almost 6 yards per carry and the Chiefs don't figure to stop that trend. Vikings take this one.
Redskins at Rams- The Resurrection of Rex Grossman continues this week as the 2-1 Redskins look to keep the Rams winless. The Rams are giving up 174 rushing yards per game. How do you beat Grossman? You get him to turn the ball over. The Rams have one interception to date and without that changing the Redskins win.
49ers at Eagles- Alex Smith is still the 49ers quarterback, right? Frank Gore nursing an ankle? West coast to East coast never works out well. Eagles win.
Saints at Jaguars- The Saints are the Saints, and the Jaguars are still the Jaguars. Marques Colston back means the Jaguars are one game closer to the end of the Jack Del Rio era- Saints win.
Steelers at Texans- The Texans get Arian Foster back, supposedly at 100%. The Steelers have won 2 in row after getting shellacked by the Ravens opening week. The Texans pass defense has controlled opposing quarterbacks and Steelers' QB Ben Roethlisberger has to avoid turnovers. The Steelers are giving up 4.6 yards per carry and the Texans can run regardless of who is in the backfield. Texans win.
Giants at Cardinals- Is there any quarterback more hit-and-miss than Eli Manning? Forget about not knowing about Kevin Kolb just yet. The Giants have the better run defense and will force Kolb to the air. Giants' Opponents' quarterbacks rating is under 80 and ultimately unless Beanie Wells runs wild, the Giants win this.
Falcons at Seahawks- The Falcons and the Eagles have probably been the biggest disappointment to date in the NFL. The Seahawks are just not a good team right now and giving up almost a 100 yards per game on the ground doesn't bode well with Michael Turner coming to town. The Falcons get to .500.
Broncos at Packers- The Packers are "All-World" right now. The Broncos would have a hard time proving they're "All-Colorado" right now. Packers win this.
Patriots at Raiders- The Patriots were stunned last week in Buffalo, and this week face a decent pass defense in the Raiders. The Raiders struggle against the run and the Patriots can exploit that. The Raiders, however, are averaging 5 yards per carry. Who would have thought this matchup would be pretty even as far as the numbers are concerned. In the end though, Tom Brady is still Tom Brady and I don't see another 4 interception game coming from him. Patriots win.
Dolphins at Chargers- The Dolphins are languishing and the Chargers, although at this stage of the game have earned the title "perennial underachievers" should have no problem coming away with a win here.
Jets at Ravens- One of the more anticipated matchups of the NFL season- and on Monday night, too. The Jets are vulnerable on the ground defensively. The Ravens can run, and will come away with this one.
And finally the matchup near and dear to my heart: Panthers at Bears. The Bears are missing S Chris Harris and suspect safety play has played a huge role in their two losses. Cam Newton has flung the ball all over the place in his two fair weather games. The Bears have finally benched Roy Williams in favor of Johnny Knox at WR, but unless Matt Forte runs more than the 10 attempts he had last week, the Bears offense goes nowhere. The Panthers are missing two starting linebackers, so if the Bears don't run Martz should be fired before the 4:00 games kickoff. Bears win.

I am glad that the blog is constantly evolving. This post just adds popularity
