NFL Labor Thoughts, NBA Draft, Pirates-Red Sox-Yankees Thoughts
I don't know, call me crazy- and many of you have- but two days of negotiations a week just doesn't seem like enough in the ongoing soap opera that is the NFL labor struggle.
The signs are encouraging, but in this day and age of information immersion through technology, isn't it possible for both sides to suck it up and meet everyday until this thing is resolved?
I mean July is right around the corner and all. We've already had at least one team cancel its training camp plans and decide to just hold it at the team's facilities. What part of this don't they understand? Does someone need to stand outside their windows a la the movie "Say Anything" with a giant boombox over their head with the sound of a ticking clock on repeat?
Before you know it, we'll have the Fourth of July holiday as an excuse why they can't meet and we'll be looking at canceling the Hall of Fame Game.
However, the owners have so much cash at stake in the preseason, I don't believe that will happen. Not even a little bit. But it just doesn't seem like everyone's acting like they have some skin in the game.
The NBA Draft was held Thursday and I really think the Cleveland Cavaliers missed the mark with Duke PG Kyrie Irving. A year after losing LeBron James to the Miami Heat, a small forward, you'd think that Arizona's Derrick Williams would have been the more enticing pick.
Especially since the Cavs have about 206 point guards on the roster.
The Lakers apparently really like the fact that they couldn't defend last season as they sat on the 4 second round picks and let an available PG like Ray Felton get traded to the Portland Trailblazers. You can't tell me there was no package Denver would have entertained that would have made sense to the Lakers.
For as great a player as Michael Jordan was, his GM skills are on the opposite end of the spectrum. Remember, he was the one who drafted Kwame Brown for the Wizards. The world may love Kemba Walker, I'm not sold on him being an NBA point guard. Anyone remember Khalid El-Amin? Not exactly the same type of player but he lit up the NCAA and failed miserably in the NBA. I know, El-Amin looked like he ate the rookies chosen before him, but after watching Walker in the Big East I'm playing the doubter on him. I don't even need to mention Bismack Biyombo.
Look at the Pittsburgh Pirates dropping the Boston Red Sox into second place. The Pirates have been languishing the last few years and to see them look like they're finally turning the corner is a good thing for baseball.
Speaking of the Red Sox being in second place, have you seen any first place team be written off more than this New York Yankees team?
It's no secret that I revel in Yankee failure, but for all their issues there they are- smug as ever in first place.

You know I completely agree with you!
