Obligatory Miami Heat Are Struggling Post

I'm not saying the Miami Heat had a rough week, but I heard even Charlie Sheen was reaching out to LeBron James to offer support. Thank you, I'll be here all week- try the veal.

One could almost look the other way at the demoralizing defeat at the hands of the San Antonio Spurs the other night, but damn if that 40-9 run they gave up to the Orlando Magic isn't a tell-tale sign that South Beach ain't all it's cracked up to be.

Think about that for a second: 40-9. For those of you keeping score at home, they still count baskets in two's and three's in the NBA. You can't tell me the Heat don't have enough talent to stop a 40-9 run.

And it's March, kiddos. This is the time teams are supposed to be coming together and showing the world that they mean business. For evidence of what I'm talking about, take a look at how all of a sudden the Lakers are rolling as they head into today's game against the Spurs. And Kobe will still try to make you believe there's no "switch" the Lakers flip after the All-Star Break.

But anywho, back to the Heat. In the Eastern Conference the teams everyone thought would be near the top have now been joined by the Chicago Bulls, who have a little bit to prove in a playoff atmosphere before I regard them as serious contenders but they are having an outstanding season nonetheless. (I think I just set a world's record for run-on sentences) Orlando, Boston, Miami and the Bulls are easily the four teams that should be battling it out for the right to represent the East in the NBA FInals. You can't look past the Atlanta Hawks as a possible spoiler to someone's postseason party, and I'm sure the Knicks will probably give at least one of those teams a run for their money.

The Heat were up 24 in the fourth quarter on the Magic and completely took their foot off the accelerator and went into prevent basketball. That my friends, tells me everything I need to know about the guts of this Heat team. While I will never question Dwayne Wade's heart, his counterparts are another story.

The world saw how James gave up in last year's playoff series against the Celtics, and he showed more of that the other night against the Magic. No one will doubt his basketball skills or his physical presence or ability. However the self-anointed "King James" has a lot to prove to everyone as far just what kind of winner he really is.

The modern mold for the needed attitude would be Michael Jordan. No one will ever doubt that all Michael wanted to do was win and win convincingly. He may have not always expressed it the right way, but I'm pretty sure if it were any of Michael's 90's Bulls teams, a 20-9 run would never have happened- much less a 40-9 one to ultimately lose the game.

And I won't even bring up the fact the James missed a game winner in the closing seconds.

Then in absolute gut-check game against the Spurs the next day, they get blown out. Losing to the Spurs is almost understandable these days. Failing to look like your team even entered the municipality of San Antonio is another. Yessir, these Heat are lacking something- something big.
