Super Bowl Aftermath
OK folks, people make mistakes but the people bent out of shape about Christina Aguilera flubbing the National Anthem have a point.
To go off on a tangent for a bit: the Anthem, which is usually devalued by wanna-be pacifists who claim it glorifies warfare, was written in the aftermath of what turned out to be a critical battle in the War of 1812- the siege of Fort McHenry near Baltimore.
After British troops sacked Washington, their next stop was Baltimore and what they figured was an assured victory. However the American forces-about 110 if I remember correctly- refused to yield to a 25 hour barrage of cannonfire.
The British withdrew and while this particular battle didn't directly determine American victory, it certainly would have made defeat imminent had fortunes been reversed.
The emotions felt by Francis Scott Key were put on paper and eventually became our anthem.
Fittingly enough for me, the tune is some old English drinking song. That alone is reason enough to not screw up the words.
WHO KNEW that the Steelers were entrepreneurs as well. I mean they could always open a bakery with all the turnovers they produced last night. Thank you!
NOT TAKING ANYTHING away from the Packers, bi the Steelers should be thankful they were even within arms reach.
ONE THING I NOTICED watching the game: both teams were built the old fashioned way- through the draft. Sure, Charles Woodson was a free agent acquisition, but for the most part both sides were filled with homegrown guys. Certain franchises should take notice.
IF THERE IS A DRAFT, it will be curious to see who the Bears whiff on this year.
