Thoughts on Pujols and Fisher
Jay Cutler's now making my life miserable. Check out the comments here .
If I'm the St. Louis Cardinals, why am I even thinking about taking the chance of losing Albert Pujols? I know the Cardinals aren't typically big free agent spenders, but Pujols is one guy who has earned it. Just like Jeter: give him what he wants and make sure he ends his career with your franchise.
Pujols is one player who has constantly raked without suspicion of PED's. He's a rare hitter that changes a pitcher's whole approach to a lineup and until he proves to me that he has nothing left in the tank, I'm giving him whatever he asks for.
He is not Manny or Papi who suddenly can't hit anymore (ahem). He continues to excel and to even entertain a plan of playing Major League Baseball in 2012 without him has to mean someone gets fired. It just has to.
However, let's say he does walk. Will it take Pujols in pinstripes for the world to finally agree that baseball needs some kind of salary cap system?
If not, what would?
Jeff Fisher has been the head coach of the Oilers/Titans since my senior year in High School. Wrap your brain around that. How rare is that these days?
There's just something that bothers me about the whole thing. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Fisher was in the last year of his contract. He wasn't going to sign an extension and the Titans weren't going to offer an extension. So why not just retire at the end of the season? It just strikes me as Fisher was trying to push Titans' owner Bud Adams' hand to get a settlement.
I have no evidence, it's just my gut.
The Pro Bowl is this Sunday and I'm more concerned with the Senior Bowl. I'm not saying...I'm just saying..
