Stay Melo and Stay Put
I know there was no LeBron, but the Nuggets spanked the Heat pretty good last night. Denver is an enigma to me. They always seem to have the potential but there's always something missing from putting it all together.
Still, I really am disappointed in Carmelo Anthony wanting to get out so bad. It bothers me when any franchise-level athlete throws his hands up and demands a trade. The Nuggets were in the Western Conference Finals just two years ago and there is some real talent on that squad.
Melo reportedly wants to go to the Knicks. Why? Other than the storied history of Madison Square Garden, why? Because they've had half a season of resurgence? I'm not even sure if Anthony can play Knicks' coach Mike D'Antoni's upbeat tempo.
The Knicks and Nuggets have identical records at 22-16, except the Knicks record includes 12 wins against the paltry Eastern Conference. Against the big three in the East, Boston, Orlando, and Miami, the Knicks are a combined 0-5.
The Nuggets biggest problem is playing on the road (5-12) and, oh yeah, they play in Denver. The Nuggets are 2-3 against the big three in the West: San Antonio, the Lakers, and Dallas. Part in parcel, it means nothing, but the Nuggets play in a significantly better conference and for all intents and purposes are holding their own.
The Knicks may be much better than they have been in recent history. Better than bad doesn't always mean good. And in Melo's case, who I believe wants to win a championship more than anything, better may mean staying home.
