NFL Wild Card Saturday Randomness

So yesterday provided some interesting outcomes in the Wild Card round of the NFL playoffs, to say the least. How many of you picked the Seahawks? Anyone? Really?

Well of course no one picked the Seahawks, even though they were at home with their 12th man advantage and all. They were facing the defending champions. How did they even stand a chance?

Let's not get too carried away here, folks. Without that amazing 67-yard touchdown run by Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch, the Saints would have somehow found away to win this game.

So the major goats for Saturday's playoff games are the Saints defense and Colts DB Jacob Lacey.

Why Lacey, you say? Well he's the defensive back who was in coverage on the pass to Braylon Edwards that set up Nick Folk's chip shot winner. He got turned around and Edwards made a nice play to set up the game winner. In that situation, you absolutely cannot get tied up like that and Edwards made him look like a rented mule.

We could debate that the list of goats should include the Colts special teams for allowing Antonio Cromartie to return the kickoff after Adam Vinatieri's 50 yard field goal put the Colts ahead 47 yards to make the field that much shorter. And who could forget Taj Smith's running into the kicker that, in the end, allowed the Jets to take more time off the clock?

How much did the Colts miss Austin Collie? I know it's impossible to know for sure, but something tells me that Collie comes up with that difficult third down catch that Blair White couldn't quite make and left Vinatieri with that 50 yard kick.

Hell, how much did the Colts miss Reggie Wayne? One catch for one yard. Take a moment and digest that one. Let it ferment. Reggie f'in Wayne caught one pass for one yard in a playoff game. Marvin Harrison wouldn't let that happen. Well, if it did, someone was going to get shot.

As time goes on, I find myself saying the same thing about Peyton Manning as I used to say about Dan Marino: God, I'd love to see him with a legit running game.

60 pass attempts for Brees? Really?  It's hard for anyone to win when you're pass-run ratio is 60-22. I know they were behind for most of the game and they have more players inactive than Ohio State next season (Thank you!), but you're just not going to be successful like that in the NFL.

Just a reminder, after going 0-2 yesterday I'm sticking with my original picks for Sunday: Baltimore and Green Bay.
