Chilly's Delusional

Former Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress recently told the St. Paul Pioneer Press that he left the Vikings in better shape than when he got there.

I'm sorry, what?

Childress' comments only serve as more evidence as how out of touch with reality he has become.

Sure, the Vikings were a field goal away from going to the Super Bowl. However the collateral damage done in the last two seasons now has the Vikings back where they were in 2006: a middle of the road team.

When Childress arrived, they had no quarterback. After the Brett Favre saga the last two years, Tarvaris Jackson HAS to be done in Minnesota. When your coach dispatches emissaries to fly across the country to urge a 41 year old quarterback coming off ankle surgery to come take your job, obviously no one has confidence in you.

Not to mention that Favre coming back also led them to trade Sage Rosenfels, they are right back where they started at the most important position on the field. Truth be told, neither Rosenfels or Jackson was the answer which makes Chilly's comments even more amazing.

The Vikings are better at RB and DE since Childress' arrival and injuries have hampered the secondary, but this team is no better post-Chilly than pre-Chilly.

The Childress Era is nothing more than harnessing Favre in a bottle for one season where everything went the Vikings way. Nothing more, nothing less.

If Leslie Frazier is retained as head coach and he eventually leads the Vikings to success, I'm sure Childress will want credit for that.
