Possible Packer Prevail Poetic

Today there are a number of NFL games with a bit more importance than your everyday run of the mill football game.

However, ignore the rest and pay attention to the Packers vs. Vikings game.

Sure, this is a division game and therefore its importance gets ramped up. There's the obvious angle of my being a Bears' fan and therefore predisposed toward this matchup. These factors pale in comparison to the drama that may very well be the Green Bay Packers sending Brett Favre to his room without supper- not just for the season but forever.

It was Green Bay, of course, who plucked Favre from anonymity in Atlanta and saw the ability few others did. When he took over for Don Majkowski, he started an incredible streak and has not missed a game since the Lincoln administration.

And now with this Vikings season teetering on disaster after marinating in disappointment, here come the Packers to drive home the proverbial nail in the coffin on a season, franchise, and Hall of Fame career.

I've written before that I really don't feel Brett Favre really wanted to come back this year after ankle surgery last summer. Based on the look on his face during initial press conferences, I saw someone who really wasn't all that thrilled about be idea but felt he HAD to for the sake of the team.

What we've seen from Favre hasn't exactly been the things legends are made of. So-so performances from a banged up 40 year old leave us fans with a sour taste in our mouths, and we won't even bring up the whole text message thing.

So here we are with the Vikings needing to win to keep even a breath of hope alive for post-season play facing the Packers who have a top five defense and a quarterback doing his damnedest to make us forget that number 4 ever played in green and gold.

It's only fitting that they would be the ones to write the final chapter, since they wrote the rest of the book.
