Friday Spew
I wish I could be more excited about the Bears 16-0 shutout of the Miami Dolphins last night, but the offense left too many points on the field. There was no hurricane or storm blowing the ball around last night, but you'd swear there was inclement weather based on Chicago's absolute refusal to put the ball in the end zone.
I really don't understand the Dolphins' offensive game plan: let's let the third string quarterback carry us against a top 5 defense.
Kudos to the Dolphins defense for putting up as strong a fight as they did, as they were on the field for the most of the night thanks to their own offense converting just 1 of 11 third down attempts.
Been there, done that.
Felix Hernandez is the American League Cy Young winner and Yankee fans everywhere are upset that Derek Jeter wasn't even considered.
Well, that's an exaggeration, but they are a little riled about C.C. Sabathia not coming away with the award. Let's just put all this crap to rest, OK? Here's where Hernandez separated himself from C.C.:
ERA WHIP QS CG K/9IP
Hernandez 2.27 1.06 30 6 8.36
Sabathia 3.18 1.19 26 2 7.46
Sabathia is no slouch, obviously, he just wasn't the best. It's OK Yankee fans, really. Your world will go on.
Baseball Commissioner Bud "please excuse everything I've done wrong" Selig says that they will go forward with expanding the postseason. The plan initially calls for an extra wild card team in each division who will play each other to determine who advance to the division series.
Holy hell it's about time baseball realizes that its only real selling point is the post-season. I've written on various sites over the years that the game is not tailored to today's point-and-click attention spans. However, when the intensity gets ramped up in October, it's too compelling not to watch. The only question is how to do it, seeing that the World Series has had a penchant for stretching into November.
Cold baseball = crap baseball. I'm sorry, it's just a fact. I once again propose the Grieve Plan which would have major league teams playing Sunday doubleheaders from May through August. This would knock 18 days off the schedule and give the baseball an extra 2 1/2 weeks of warm weather to play the post-season.
It's the right thing to do to not sacrifice the integrity of the game, add the excitement of more post-season baseball and not have the quality of that baseball suffer.
Good luck getting the players union to agree to that.

Very simple in words but in reality, many discrepancies, not so peachy!
