Random Thoughts 9-18-10

So, if Darelle Revis goes out and tears his hamstring this week, does that justify the need for NFL players to get guaranteed money and holdout if necessary? Or does it reinforce how important training camp is to get in shape, maintain flexibility and conditioning, etc.? Discuss.

Ines Sainz says herself that no Jets player or personnel made physical contact with her nor made any comments that could be construed as threatening or offensive. So what the hell is the big deal? This is a sad example of advocacy groups smelling blood and attempting to go in for the kill. Yes, the players were a bit immature, but if they didn't do or say anything offensive and simply went out of their way to talk to an attractive member of the opposite sex, what's the harm? Unprofessional, sure. But worthy of all this attention? Hardly.

Joe Torre stepping down and Don Mattingly taking over is one of those stories that can't really judged today. Torre walking away is big news because it leaves the relatively untested Mattingly at the helm of one of baseball's storied franchises. If the Yankees are the top of the mountain, the Dodgers aren't that far behind. Maybe they don't have nearly as many titles, but the franchise history makes them at least in the top 5. For the record, my all time, desert island top 5 baseball franchises:

1.) New York Yankees
2.) Los Angeles and Brooklyn Dodgers
3.) Chicago Cubs
4.) St. Louis Cardinals
5.) San Francisco and New York Giants

Obviously more than titles entered into my ranking system. Debate if you want, but these are the top 5 franchises that over the course of the last 100+ years have meant the most to the game.
