Jeter Ticked Me Off, Alright?
I've been in a bit a Twitter blast-fest with various sites over this. I feel the need to elaborate on just why, upon seeing this, my hatred for the Yankees only intensified.
First of all, any player acting like this is what we fans refer to as "Bush League". Yes, the fact that Jeter is a Yankee irked me even more because the mere sight of navy pinstripes raises my blood pressure a couple of points.
The arguments in favor of Jeter's little Oscar worthy performance state that this is no different than a catcher framing a pitch, a basketball player "flopping" trying to draw a foul, etc, etc.
Wrong, wrong, wrong, and wrong etc, etc, etc.
You see, the main issue I have here is not that Jeter was trying wrangle a free trip to first base out of it. Like people have said, it's gamesmanship. It happens in every sport, every where. However what I object to is Jeter's need to go over the top and sell it. There's no need to. It's very similar to when a player takes a close pitch on a three ball count and starts heading to first base only to have the umpire call a strike and he has to return to the batter's box.
But Jeter, for all his accolades and rightful spot in Yankee lore, had to prance around and oversell it. This falls in the category of "Bush League", much like when Alex Rodriguez- another Yankee- was running the bases on a pop-up and yelled something to make the fielder think someone else was calling for the ball.
Against the rules? No. An exhibition of a lack of class? Absolutely only because it was unnecessary. Jeter has been a modicum of class since his major league debut. Last night was a step back for him. He's still a Hall Of Fame talent and one of the game's all time greats.
He's just a little more "Bush League than I would like."

And we still have very cold ((((
