Sunday Random Thoughts 8-29-10

I can't tell you how happy it made me to see Chinese Taipei get eliminated from the Little League World Series. I was watching their first round game against Saudi Arabia, I think, and they were up 16-0 and bunting for base hits and stealing bases.

Where I come from, that kind of bush-league action would get a fastball in the ear hole of your next hitter. Just sayin'....

Whether you like the Tampa Bay Rays or not, you gotta admit they're answering the bell in the clutch pretty well. Tied with the New York Yankees for the lead in the AL East, every game counts. The Yanks kept the heat on by coming out on top of the Chicago White Sox and Tampa was faced with falling a game off the pace. An extra-inning walkoff win against the third place Red Sox should be a shot in the arm.

The really good news? The two teams face each other six times in the last three weeks of the season. I hate American League baseball, but I'll watch that. Fo' sho'.

Here's hoping Raiders quarterback Jason Campbell is alright after being carted off the field with a 'stinger'. Every fan who hates how little starters play in the preseason just saw reason number one why things are the way they are.

I'm a Jason Campbell fan. I think he was unfairly held accountable for everything wrong in Washington, and while I don't know if the Raiders are a good place for him to regain some respect, I am pulling for him to be successful. It would be really unfortunate if the injury turns out to be something serious.

Who would you rather have, Redskins fans: Jason Campbell or Albert Haynesworth? How long before Haynesworth jumps on head coach Mike Shanahan's head?

I'm finding it hard to guage the NL playoff races, but the Braves may just take it. Forget that Derek Lee is sub-Mendoza since coming to the Braves, Hudson-Hanson-Lowe is enough of a playoff rotation to make life very easy. Being a Mets fan, I want them to win the World Series without Chipper. He has to be my baseball nemesis if you're counting the last 25 years of my baseball fandom.

Chipper feeling left out would make my day, even it can't take my mind off the mess in Flushing.
