There He Goes Again...

The Hall Of Fame Game is pretty much in the books as I'm writing this and thanks to the ridiculous length of the NFL preseason, I can honestly say I watched maybe 3 snaps.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to have football back but there really isn't too much anyone can take away from the first preseason game. That is, of course, unless there's a pre-game interview with former Dallas Cowboys now Cincinnati Bengals Wide Receiver Terrell Owens.

In a manner that only the horrifically outspoken Owens could produce, he literally looked journalists dead in the eye and said that his release from the Cowboys after the disastrous 2008 season was not his fault.

I'm sorry, what?

For those of you have that have forgotten, the Cowboys lost 3 of their last 4 games to miss the playoffs that year. A development that was particularly painful since the Cowboys were picked to at least appear in the Super Bowl by a lot of sources that year.

What ensued that December was a lot of finger pointing and derogatory remarks about his quarterback, Tony Romo.

When asked, Romo took the high road and instead chose to remember the good times. Owens said it's not my fault. Riiiiiiiiiiight.

You see, what irks me the most about this is that I actually have been a fan of Owens- on the field. I like the attitude and persona, albeit a little on the arrogant/ showboat side.

What unequivocally throws me off the Owens Express is the "it's-never-my-fault' attitude. He has thrown every quarterback he's played with under the bus. When he's felt he hasn't been targeted enough, he complains about not being allowed to carry the team to victory.

Me, me, me, me, me, etc., etc.

That's why no team wanted to touch him this past offseason with a 10 foot pole until his price had fallen so far, he was basically forced to accept the incentive laden contract the Bengals offered. We won't even bring up the fact that they were interested in him earlier in the offseason, but at the time chose to sign Antonio Bryant.

If his experiences over the past 7 months haven't taught him a need for humility, what will? It seems that despite all my overt optimism that this time he had to get a clue, I have only set myself up for disappointment.

He is probably basing his opinion of himself on all those Super Bowl rings he wears, right?
