NBA Finals Game 7
It's easy to guess why I'm jonesing for tonight's NBA Finals Game 7 between my beloved Lakers and that other team from Boston. The built-up drama over the last six games between the NBA's most storied franchises is enough to make fiction writers jealous. We've gone from Ray Allen making 3's to Ray Allen missing 3's. We've had one starting center playing on half a leg and his counterpart get knocked out for this pivotal game. We've seen Kobe Bryant out together a Finals MVP performance regardless of whethe they win the title and Rasheed Wallace fly off the handle. With all the subplots, it might be easy to forget this one major caveat: there is no tomorrow-period. This game is for all the marbles, as these two basketball heavyweights have traded blows for six games. They've each beaten the other on their home court. They've both looked terrific one moment, and listless the next. All of that simultaneously builds up and is completely meaningless. There's no pacing yourself. No reason to save anything. Tonight's the night someone is going to be crowned a champion, and it's most likely going to be the team that empties the tank. Whoever plays interior D and rebounds the best will come away with more than just a "W"- they will walk away with the label all athletes covet most of all: champion. 48 minutes to decide it all between two franchises that don't really like each other. What more could you ask for?-----KG
