Sunday Morning Thoughts

I'm just curious, would I have dropped what I was doing to watch Phillies vs. Giants if new Phillie Cliff Lee was starting against Tim Lincecum?

Last year's Cy Young Award winners now in the same league and facing off against each other? It doesn't get much more "must see" than that.

In the end they ended up missing each other by one day and if the results of their respective starts are any indication, it's worth a little schedule watching. Friday it was Cliff Lee going the distance for a complete game win in his first outing for his new team. Saturday it was Lincecum's turn and he didn't disappoint, hurling 8 scoreless innings in a 2-0 Giants win.

The trades of this season have me doing something I haven't done in a long time: going out of my way to watch games that don't involve the Mets. Cards-Cubs is heating up and since the Cardinals acquired Matt Holliday, I actually get excited when one of their games is on because that lineup has the potential to light up a scoreboard any night of the week. And soon we'll get to see Jake Peavy in a White Sox uniform, after they just got done sweeping the red hot Yankees.

The dog days are starting, but if August is going to be remotely as intriguing as the last two weeks of July, sign me up.-----KG
