Weekend Ramblings

WE'LL START with a little Q and A:

Q: How do you know when you are bigger than the sport you currently play?
A: When you missing the cut is the bigger than story than the leader's story.

Tiger is just as enthralling to us when he struggles as when he's running away with tournaments. Tom Watson leading the British Open, just his second event all year, is a tremendous story.

Yet it's buried under the weight of the almight Tiger.

Don't get me wrong, at the end of the day Tiger might just be the best there ever was.

It's just a shame to me that someone not playing the last two days will get more attention than the players performing.

A little case of "What have you done for me lately"? Maybe, but not enough people are talking about Tom Watson is doing. So Monday night I am promising a Tiger free 87 Live.

Don't think I can do it?

Me Neither.

THE ALL-STAR BREAK IS over and look at that, Albert Pujols sends another two baseballs to the big park in the sky.

I have never rooted for an individual not in a Mets uniform any more than I am rooting for Pujols to hit 62 Home Runs. I would love to see 74 and wipe Barry Bonds out of the record books.

But that would mean Pujols would have to start juicing 6 months ago.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S WORSE, the Mets getting blanked by Atlanta with Ryan Church making a highlight reel catch- or- the Mets getting blanked by the Braves on the day they retire Greg Maddux's number and he makes a smug "Let's beat the Mets like old times" comment.

You would think a remark like that would spark something in the Mets dugout.. Apparently, there is no hope in Metville with Jose and the two Carlos' out.

APPARENTLY YANKEE STADIUM will host an Army-Notre Dame football game in 2010. The only question is how can they configure the stadium so no quarterback is throwing toward right field.

I JUST GOT DONE watching the ESPN report on the video of Adam "Pacman" Jones at the infamous strip club that resulted in a shooting. Something just doesn't add up for me.

First- three people say he punched a stripper in the face multiple times. He denies it. I never believe either side in a he-said-he-said situation, but he-said-they-said- is a bit different.

The fact that I haven't heard in any of these reports that the actual stripper who allegedly got hit has said that leads me to actually believe Jones. (I can't believe I just wrote that)

Second- first Jones said he saw an unidentified individual fleeing the scene after the shooting. Then seven months after the shooting, he can identify the man by name?

Something tells me that Pacman was running from more than just brightly colored ghosts this time.

The only thing more troubling than this whole story, is the bulge in the pants of the guy holding the bucket of cash in the strip club.

You're going to ESPN.com right now, aren't you?

You people are sick.
