I Have The Solution
Hello Friends,
I have the solution to a little problem in the sports world. The wonderful world of boxing has seen an amazing decline over the years. There have been numerous controversies, poor management and boring, arrogant fighters. But it came to me just this afternoon, boxing needs Jack McCoy.
Yes this revelation came to me while watching my daily intake of Law and Order, but it has merit. What does boxing have too much of? Anyone? Boxing is flooded with thugs and illiterate egomaniacs. What does it need? It needs a hard-ass, tough as nails geriatric who is second only to the late, great John Wayne in machismo.
Now do I truly believe in this scenario, no of course not, but I am using Sam Watterson to prove a point. Over the last 2 decades, the scum who have run the sport of boxing have allowed subpar fighters to rule the roost. Now that this proud sport has dropped down below the level of American Gladiators, those of us who have been lifelong fans of boxing feel the pain.
My grandfather spent the fist 2 decades of my life teaching me and my brothers about the great sport of boxing, We saw old films of great fighters such as Jack Dempsey, Rocky Marciano, and possibly the greatest fighter ever, Joe Louis. Boxing was a part of our lives up until the day Cus D'Amato left this world. For those of you who do not know Cus D'Amato, he was the trainer of a young Mike Tyson. Tyson early on in his career was an unstoppable force of nature. The only thing that could contain his rage was the kind old man who had first shown him love. When Tyson was let loose, well, we all know what happened then.
Since the demise of "Iron Mike", there has been a steady stream of bums taking hold of the title belts. Men who care more about their entrances than they do about the technical aspects of the sport. Well to paraphrase the Joker from Batman, this sport needs an enema.
